The beach extends eastward for about a mile, eventually meeting Beer Head—a perfect spot for coastal walks and breathtaking views.

Parking: Fear not, beachgoers! There’s a convenient car park near the beach entrance1. No need to lug your picnic basket too far!

Café: Fancy a cuppa or an ice cream? The beach café has you covered. Because nothing says “seaside bliss” like sipping a latte with sand between your toes.

Forge and Lace: Explore the village forge, where blacksmiths once shaped metal into tools and horseshoes. And speaking of craftsmanship, Branscombe was famous for its handmade lace—a delicate art passed down through generations.

Smuggler’s Secrets: Back in the 1800s, Branscombe was a hotspot for smuggling. Jack Rattenbury, the legendary smuggler, roamed these shores. Tunnels were discovered in the fields—rumoured hiding spots for contraband goods like brandy, tea, and silk. The dragoons tried to catch the smugglers, but Jack was wily and lucky. His motto? “No one, however, offered to advance.”

 

🌟 Fun Fact: The Weston Plats, between Branscombe and Sidmouth, were clifftop plots where locals farmed early crops of flowers, veggies, and strawberries. Those Branscombe potatoes? They gave Jersey spuds a run for their money!
